• 155 million food items were expired and disposed in HK in 2017. Businesses discharged 29 tones of edible food per day. The disposal accounts for a third of all solid waste in Hong Kong.
• Hong Kong is ranked as world’s top 10 most expensive cities to live in 2016. Working-populations spend a huge proportion of income in maintaining their living standard.
• There is apparently a resource allocation inefficiency in the FMCG industry. Products are wasted at their end of shelf-life; whereas, a vast number of citizens who do not mind consuming short-dated products usually could not get their hands on these items.
