It started in 2017, when we were tasked to launch naked Hub in HK. This was a branded co-working operator from China who had aggressive plans to not only open in HK but dominate. At the time there were 50 other operators, so the competition was high. One of our KPI’s was to get on Page 1 of Google in 6-8 months, get enough PR visibility to ensure we could be 90% full and to make sure we are in the media conversation with WeWork. They were pretty ambitious expectations, but we did it!
So how did we get on Page 1 of Google in 6-8 months?
There were three major challenges 1) It had never existed on Google before 2) The competition was high 3) the URL had the word ‘naked’ in it so it was going to be impossible for google to let it rank
We did a lot of reverse engineering of our competitors and leveraging on their weaknesses. We generated a lot of content around the brand, a massive amount. We also did tons of PR. We then too all of this juice and spread it across the web, to get google to notice, to see our importance. And it worked. So, while the URL didn’t rank on page 1 or 2, all the relevant key words and searches resulted in some form of Page 1 ranking, including google map listings and all the organic articles we planted across the web. It was an incredible challenged accepted moment.
Then what happened?
WeWork noticed the noise naked up was making across China and HK. They stated talking and in 2018 the company was sold to then for USD400 Million!
What did you do with this winning strategy?
What we used for naked Hub, was a combo of Strategy (20%), Software’s (20%) and (60%) Manual work. It was the latter part that was time consuming. We asked ourselves how we can do this more efficiently and get the same results. It got us excited about ‘beating’ the giants who spend $$$$ on google ads taking up all the real estate. We wanted to get the underdogs to spend a tiny fraction and get ranked alongside if not outranking the giants.
So how did you do it?
My Partner and I worked with a bunch of software developers in India, gave them a project brief and a problem to solve. 18 months later, through stitching together multiple software’s and tools, we found a way to automate the 80% of this process.
And how do you know it worked?
We trialed it with 10 different businesses and the results speak for themselves.
What excites you about this new venture?
The fact that you can dominate Page 1 on Google for your best product/service. That you can outrank your competition on Page 1, that you can drive organic and direct traffic to your business and all for a tiny fee (relatively speaking). You do not need a marketing team, an SEO agency or pay for advertising. It you fit our criteria and just did this, then it is a no-brainer what the results can do for you.
