What is The DO Neighbourhood Innovation Challenge?

Urban living in Hong Kong has undergone significant changes in the past few years, transforming neighborhoods into communities. To enhance modern neighborhoods, it is essential to create spaces that encourage social interaction and foster a sense of belonging and better quality of life.

Creating a built environment that supports human well-being requires careful consideration of the physical surroundings, the needs of the community, and the use of technology to create sustainable, comfortable, and safe spaces. This can be achieved by creating spaces that encourage socializing, such as clubhouses with a gym, kids area, and lounges that support remote working.

Additionally, creating spaces that promote sustainability can also enhance community spirit. For example, providing recycling facilities, community composting, and rainwater harvesting can encourage residents to work together to reduce waste and conserve resources.

In our upcoming DO Challenge, we will deep dive into the most sought-after topics of residential communities (example statements):

  • How might we encourage social interaction and design spaces that promote health and well-being among tenants?
  • How might we incorporate technology into the built environment that can also enhance residents’ interaction and living together?
  • How might we provide spaces for the children and parents?
  • How might we offer the relevant services and features to support comfort and safety of all residents?
  • How might we create a community within residential spaces that supports the future of work and remote workers?
  • How might we improve physical facilities that support sustainability?
