Companies often invest heavily in research and development in order to develop a product or create a novel design. Due to the time and costs dedicated to such efforts, many companies apply for patents to protect their inventions and to obtain a better market position vis-à-vis competitors.
The grant of a patent accords the owner exclusive monopoly rights to make or sell a product, or to use a process. Owners either exploit the patents for a certain period of time, or apply for patents as part of a defensive business strategy. Besides granting exclusivity to owners, patents form part of a company’s intangible asset portfolio and may be attractive to investors or established companies looking for complementary inventions.
Join us this evening for a session touching on the importance and advantages of patents as well as related commercial concerns in applying for patents.
