You are perfect for us if you are:
An experienced brand creative/advertising/design professional looking for an opportunity to be an integral part of a small team, take on huge responsibility, and build an exciting new consumer brand from the ground up.
Position Overview:
Lumos is seeking a Brand Design Lead. This person will work closely with the founders of the company to bring our brand to life across every aspect of the business – from setting the art direction across our channels, to developing visual identities for our online and offline experiences, to strategizing the creation, development, and launch of our new products.
You will develop and articulate our core brand strategy (insight, proposition, promise, architecture, etc.), and bring it to life through the creative process, including naming, brand copy, and communications. You see the big picture, but also believe that great brands and great design comes down to execution and the details.
Responsibilities:
Take ownership of articulating and defining what the Lumos brand is, and ensuring that we tell our story in a consistent, authentic, and compelling way across all our customer touch points.
- Develop and lead brand strategy. What is Lumos? Who are we, what do we stand for, and why?
- Conduct research and draw insights
- Lead strategic conversations within the team to help us identify and synthesize our insight, proposition, positioning, and promise as a brand
- Identify and articulate our story and our narrative
- How might we deliver a product and experience to our users that amazes and inspires devotion, passion, and trust?
- Translate strategy into action. How shall we present ourselves to the world? How will we tell our story? How will we live out our values?
- Bring brand to life across web, print, photo, video, packaging, customer service, and all relevant mediums
- Create a clear style guide providing clear graphic and external communications guidelines
- Analyze the results. How do we know if we have been successful
- Monitor relevant key metrics such as NPS
- Provide input onto product strategy
- Work well and effectively within a flat hierarchy. Be a real person an excellent teammate.
Note that given the very early stage of the company that we are in, a high degree of adaptability is expected and required for this role. We are constantly learning new things and adapting our strategy and activities accordingly. Indeed, we see this as one of our key competitive advantages over the incumbents as it will allow us to try many more things and move much quicker than our competitors.
As such we expect this person to only look at this job description as a guideline. With just a handful of people in our company, we eschew roles and seek people willing and able to ignore job descriptions. Everyone’s job at Lumos is to do anything and everything we can to make it a success and meet our company goals regardless of our “jobs.”
Requirements:
- 3 – 6 years previous experience working as a brand strategist at a branding, advertising, or design agency strongly preferred. Samples of creative briefs or case study samples required.
- Creative strategic thinker and natural storyteller. You have a strong creative point of view and sense of aesthetic that is grounded in strategic thinking.
- Confident, persuasive communicator with the ability to make strategic and intelligent design decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to create clever and fresh brand messaging, including headlines, company descriptions, product descriptions etc.
- Ability to brainstorm brilliant creative ideas and employ your strategic thinking to recommend strong design solutions.
- Deep understanding of brand strategy, positioning, and brand architecture
- Passionate about design
- Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent set of tools.
- Experienced being a bike commuter in an American or European city at some point in their life. Passion for bikes a huge plus.
- Independent, resourceful, and dependable. You are able to and enjoy working with minimal handholding.
- Detail oriented and organized. You’re a pro at managing and prioritizing the workload for yourself and your team.
- Interest in startups, entrepreneurship, and building things from the ground up
