August Robotics recently released its first robot, an application-specific robot for the global trade show industry. The company will soon begin work on its next wave of revolutionary robots and is growing its team accordingly.
THE ROLE
As a Control Engineer, you will be a key member of the August Robotics technical team in Shenzhen and you will work on every level of the stack (sensors, motors, dynamics) from start to finish.
You will be a key member of our systems integration team, responsible for integrating components to create reliable, professional and robust robotic products that satisfy requirements of the company’s clients. You will work on sensor fusion (LiDAR, IMU, odometer, etc..) to ensure that our robots are aware of their environment and are able to respond accordingly.
Your primary responsibility will be to troubleshoot systems integration problems, using your accumulated robotics knowledge and expertise to diagnose, verify and resolve technical issues that arise during robot testing.
You will also be expected to code motion controllers and to contribute on the design and implementation of the robot’s constituent electronics and electro-mechanical components.
You will also lead the company’s efforts to design and maintain a comprehensive and rigorous testing regime for the company’s robots. Your testing regime will ensure that the robots are prepared for any eventuality that may arise during commercial operation, and that the robots are reliable and robust in all client environments and situations.
The role will be based in August Robotics’ office in Shenzhen.
YOUR SKILLS
You must show:
– University degree in Control, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Automation, Robotic Engineering or a related discipline
– Your University degree should be from a top-tier university in China (MUST be a 985 university, ideally a C9 university) or from an overseas university
– Expert level programming skills in either C/C++ or Python (and its associated libraries)
– Practical experience on PID
– Experience with microcontroller (including serial communication, debugging interface, etc)
– Deep understanding of electrical engineering concepts, as evidenced by past work experience and projects
– Excellent communication skills and strong teamwork capabilities
– Native level fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken English is NOT required for this role)
In addition to the above requirements, ALL of which you must demonstrate to be considered for this role, the following skills are helpful but not required:
– Understanding of control engineering concepts, as evidenced by past work experience and projects
– Signal processing experience and/or capabilities
– Familiarity with the Robotic Operating System (ROS), with recent experience that includes coding & developing robotics products, drivers and/or controllers in ROS
– Practical experience on STM32
You should have at least 1 year of work experience as a control engineer, including practical experience working on robotic products that were not just research projects, but were ultimately commercially released.
You should be comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the idea of working in an entrepreneurial culture. You should be open to new experiences, open to learning new things, and willing to jump in and lend a hand on a range of different issues and task when the need arises.
